Located in the northern part of Napa Valley, the Calistoga AVA is also the hottest with the diurnal variation, or the intraday change in temperatures from high to low, the highest during growing season. Cabernet Sauvignon is king here, and the higher elevation corresponds with cooler nighttime temperatures allowing for more acid retention and more balanced wines.
